Current Obsession

My current obsession: The green tea iced latte (Matcha iced latte) from Starbucks

You're probably thinking - Starbucks? Why so basic Sara? Well, I honestly like it and it tastes good so who really cares right? Also, its close to my university, making it easy for me to get my iced latte fix. I jumped on the matcha bandwagon about three (or more) years late. Id say I'm a rookie when it comes to those green tea leaves. It took me  only forever to stand the taste of normal japanese green tea yet alone iced green tea so cut me some slack. I was introduced to this delicious drink by my university friends who are pro matcha. Prior to this, I had loads of friends who were so hooked up on matcha but I never really understood what the whole hype was about. To be frank, I was never really interested in even trying a little sip until last summer when I was back in Malaysia where I finally broke my Green tea frappe virginity.

I had met up with some old high school buddies at a Starbucks nearby where I live for a quick catch up session while waiting for the others before we headed to our annual dinner. A friend of mine had ordered a matcha frappuccino. Suddenly I had this odd urge to try a little. Ohhhhh boy was I overwhelmed. Over dinner, another friend of mine had ordered the thai milk green tea and again I tried it.

WOW!!

This thing is pretty good

How could something I thought tasted to gross taste so good now??? I guess my taste buds are more sensitive now and that I am able to appreciate and taste the delicious matcha flavour. I guess my mum  was right, once you get older, something you previously dislike i.e. green tea, you might like when you're older. She likes to tell me about a my little shrimp story and how I didn't like it at first and it only took me approximately 12 years to eat shrimp and prawns. Im just a late bloomer what can I say haha

I would never really order anything matcha despite the having enjoyed my first few encounters. It was just something I wouldn't order myself. If it was there and someone ordered it for me, I'd have it but I'd never actually willingly order it myself unless told to. During the exam period earlier this year prior to St. Patrick's day in London, the match frappucino was advertised outside Starbucks. I told my friends about it and they were in utter shock that have never had a matcha iced latte?!!!! Having said so, we just have to get one each. A little pick me up to get us through burning the midnight oil since exams were approaching. I had a little taste and was instantly hoooooked. Ive been obsessed ever since. I can now add this to my guilty pleasure list, for sure. So head down to your nearest Starbucks and take a risk. Try their matcha iced latte, you won't regret it!
