Borough Market

Out and about on our random day out

Jamal and I decided to splurge our money at Borough Market. Borough Market is London's most renowned food market. It is a a source of exceptional British produce and also international produce. Its not all about the food really, its more about the people and the place as well. All the traders there share the love of food and most of them make and grow their own stuffs. So customers would know exactly where they are from. We are talking about the fresh foods like vegetables and fruits. Not only that, they have a wide range of different fresh seafoods and meats.

For those who would want to just walk around, try free samples and maybe buy a thing or two. Borough Market is the right place for you. Loads of free samples, but one must remember to not abuse this privilege of free goodies. One or two is fine but not the whole loaf of bread please... Jamal and I went to the market with empty stomachs and only one thing on our minds, which was obviously FOOD. We sort of went financially unprepared. I don't mean us not having enough money, its the fact that we didn't bring the accepted form of money i.e coins, pound notes. * if you'd like to buy some goodies from the food stalls there, they only accept pound notes and coins.  Debit/credit cards are not acceptable *

First stop was the burger stall. Jamal was whining because he had nothing since morning. I told him to get a burger first and we'd then walk around.I forgot to take a photo of his burger but he has a wagyu burger with some special sauce which cost him around £5 pounds. For what he got, I think a fiver was quite a good deal. We had freshly pressed juice as well, £2 each while finding something for me to eat. We went on a weekend so it was pretty busy but we didn't mind.  We walked round the whole market looking at retro clothing and other food stalls when we came across this stall selling everything duck. They had duck confit, dick sandwiches, foie gras, fresh duck great you name it. From that stall, Jamal had his duck baguette and bought raw duck breast to cook for dinner.

There was this paella stall that sold things like, seafood and bacon paella, crispy salt and chilli squid, vietnamese curry and thai green curry chicken. We had passé that stall countless times and I had been trying to get Jamal to get something from that stall just cause I wanted to try something there. Initially, I wanted the paella but then I saw in that they have chorizo in them. SO that was a big no no. I then looked at their thai green curry. it didn't really look like curry back home/indian curry it looked more like "masak lemak chilli padi" but without it being that spicy. I ordered that. it came with rice and It costed me £5. It was really good and a very mush enjoyed it. Jamal did too.

We wondered off the streets of the market and found a really quaint Gelato place called Gelataria 3 bis. It was pure and simple. Good ambiance and very friendly staff. Other than ice-cream, they have cookies, cakes, teas, coffee and other delicious things. for £2.75 (which is a small cone) I was asked to pick two flavours. I didn't really want two scoops but when you're offered two scoops you DONT say no. Especially when it comes to ice-cream. From the flavours, i chose two scoops of coconut ice-cream. yummmm. Also, the guy added a generous amount of hot chocolate syrup into my cone before  placing the ice-cream scoop on the top of the cone. Jamal had an expresso because he "didn't" want anything sweet.BO-RING.... Nevertheless, in the end he gave in and had some of mine.Seeeee nobody can stand not having a little taste of gelato.

After our cute gelato date, both of us wanted to stroll around the market for a while before it closes. We passed an oyster shop and was just tempted to have a plate. We thought about it hard because it was approaching evening and we weren't really sure whether or not the oysters were still fresh. A couple of people were still buying plates of oysters form them so we assumed that they were still fine. We shared a plate of six large oysters. I had one and Jamal well had five oysters. As we were minding our own business and chatting away, this table of old English ladies started arguing with the owner of the oyster stall. Those ladies, were drunk and started cursing at the people that passed by their way. The fight got worse till the police had to get involved.
